Where are you originally from?

Marquette, Michigan (I am a YOOPER)

What brought you to the accounting industry?

It was the one class that I was good at in high school and when I started college I revisited the idea of accounting after considering a career in broadcasting. I did well again and decided it was the best career path for me.

What accounting services do you offer?

I offer bookkeeping, payroll and tax services for both individual and businesses.

How do you deal with different clients? (Organized, not so organized, etc.)

Every client is unique and has its own set of challenges. I am willing to do what is needed even preparing spreadsheets off of the shoe box of receipts to best serve the clients needs.

Tax laws change every year. How do you update your knowledge?

I am constantly taking CPE review classes through the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants as well as also reading articles online through social media groups I belong to as well.

How do you keep calm under the pressure of tax season?

I am a low-key easy going person by nature and that is definitely a necessity when dealing with the stress of tax season. The key is to work with the client and maintain contact throughout the year which also helps minimize the impact as well.

Please share one inspirational/impactful client story with us.

I have a client who was using a “family friend” to do their taxes and was making mistake after mistake and after reviewing the situation I was able to in fact get them a refund. They have been using me ever since and are getting the maximum tax refund they deserve.

What do you like most about what you do?

It is fun to interact with people and get to know them on a personal as well as a professional level which helps make the work I do that much easier.

If you can give one piece of professional advice to a potential client, what would it be?

I would highly recommend investing in yourself whenever possible. Talk to a financial advisor if necessary and get money put away for retirement which has numerous tax benefits as well. Also buy a house as it has big tax advantages too.

What’s your favorite thing to do on your day off?

GOLF.
