Michael Bowles

President, T&M Property Inspections Inc
YP Member since 2017

Where are you originally from?

I am originally from the Des Plaines area. I moved from Des Plaines to Wood Dale around the time I was going into the 4th grade. Then I moved out here to Lake in The Hills in 2008 and have been here ever since.

What brought you to the home inspection industry?

I was originally a union carpenter and wound up breaking my back 2x and wound up becoming paralyzed for a while. I recovered for about 3 years and then couldn’t go back to being a carpenter. Then I was introduced to another home inspector and fell in love with the industry.

What services do you offer?

I offer home full residential/commercial inspections, condo/apartment inspections, pre-sale inspections, multi-dwelling inspections, short sale/foreclosure inspections, thermal imaging inspections, rental property inspections, annual/seasonal inspections, mold testing and radon testing.

In such a competitive industry, how do you stand out from the crowd? Anything that makes your company unique?

I make my company stand out by the quality of my services. An example is that I offer a discount for repeat clients, most other home inspectors will charge the same rate for each inspection. I offer my clients a $100 off for repeat business. The other way I stand out is to offer my network of contractors to clients, or anyone who is in need of quality trades to complete a job.

How do you stay up to date with current best practices? Are you a member of any organizations or have any certifications?

I am a member of ASHI – American Society of Home Inspectors. It is a national association of whom makes the standards of practice for the entire home inspection industry. I have to complete so many continuous education credits with them, as well as I am required to have completed at least 12 hours every 2 years through the State of Illinois.

Do you have a power team of service providers that you work with? Mortgage lenders, handymen, contractors, real estate agents, etc.

Yes, I work with Real estate agents to help the clients understand their property. My network is also compromised of qualified and licensed contractors for specific repairs and reviews. Other power partners include mortgage lenders, bank trust officers, and insurance agents.

Please share one inspirational/impactful client story with us:

I have been working with a first-time buyer to help them combat a crooked roofing contractor as well as help them stay in their new first-time home without killing their deal. They have referred back to me on several occasions with reviewing the contractor’s complete repairs through the entire house and I’m glad to say they are getting ready to move into their dream home shortly after the final review.

As an owner of your own business, what do you like most about what you do? Any advice for other business owners?

I like the idea that I control everything, meaning when something needs to get done I don’t have to run it up the food chain to get results. On the other hand, it is a struggle with time management being that you have to wear every single hat that a corporation has different offices for. Learn to master my time between work, networking, social life, and your home and family life as well.

If you can give one piece of professional advice to a potential client, what would it be?

Always make sure you use qualified vetted professionals for repairs. And when it comes to roofing and plumbing make sure they are licensed in Illinois and have been referred by someone you know and trust that has used their services before.

Describe your dream vacation. Where would you go? Who would you bring?

I would love to go to Hawaii and bring my entire family and close friends one day. Take all the people that are close to me who have believed in me and helped me get to the point where I am today with my business. Without a great support team, you won’t make it very far.
